31. FASHION WEEK
In other words the week of fashion – the most important event in fashion industry. Designers, brands and fashion houses present then their collections to traders and represevtatives of media. The most prestigous fashion weeks are held two times in a year in New York, London, Milan and Paris (exatcly in this order!). These cities are called the “big four” due to their importance to the fashion world. But fashion weeks are organized everywhere, from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to Lodz in Poland 🙂 Autumn-winter collections are presented between February and March and summer collections from September to October. Paris has got its own fashion weeks for haute couture. The first so called press week (the week of collection presentation for foreign journalists) was organized in New York (in 1943) by a publicist, Eleanor Lambert. It’s thanks to her that the French magazine – Vogue – started to present things designed by American designers and a so called fashion week became a fixed point in fashion schedule. These events had a trading character inthe past, there were traders from the whole world to look at some designers’ suggestions for the forthcoming season and to order chosen models. Todays it’s a special day which even draws people who aren’t directly connected with fashion. It tempts the entertainment world, the biggest world movie and music stars, trendsetters and bloggers. No wonder then that outfits prepared by Kim Kardashian specially for a fashion week are discussed as much as a new Gucci collection 😉
32. SWAG
You may explain SWAG as showing off. It’s a style loved by American rapers like for example Soulja Boy. Imagine luxury cars, chains on necks, gold laces on teeth and clothes bought in the most expensive shops. Of course, with a big logo! 😀 But SWAG isn’t just used for describing an appearance, it describes a personality of a celebrity which is arrogant and cheeky enough to highlight his/her uniqueness and … material status 😉 Lil B, a raper, tries to convince people in his songs that SWAG belongs to him and Kanye West tells that he is… a God 😉 Rihanna likes to pattern herself on others and to pose with money and Miley Cyrus wears a golden grill on teeth for fun. A rumour tells that this term was borrowed from a name of a music band from 60. which was an acronym of a sentence – Secretly We Are Gay 🙂 To get to know the meaning of SWAG, you have to leave aside Internet jokes and understand using our historical knowledge. Swag comes from a Scandinavian word svagga (“sway”)and came into use in 12th century or 14th century. With the course of time it had changed its meaning to “hanging loosely or heavily”. In XIX century this term used to be a synonym of a word “loot” – stolen jewelry – a hanging wreath or a garland. And a way from this meaning to our present gold chains which bounce on the neck of Trinidad James in his music clip. 😀 What’s interesting, the term swag means a tramp in Australia. (it’s connected with a big which a tramp wears on his arm)
33. START-UP
Start-up is a blend of words and it normally means “a setting in motion”. It’s a young, modern company which is aimed at finding innovative ways for earning money. As a rule it’s in a developing phase and it looks actively for new markets. It experiments and uses creative work methods. Since such sturtups like Google or Facebook have shaken up the international business, every young man on the Earth dreams of establishing its own company 🙂 The common perception is that start-ups are especially based on brainstorming, drinking coffee, designing fashionable apps and changing the future of the world 😀 To be honest, business world is only for chosen people. You have to be patient (profits don’t come immediately), creative (competitors don’t sleep) and you mustn’t be afraid of taking a risk. The rules aren’t imposed from the top down. Normally you have to be able to do everything on your own, starting from creating images to marketing. Although according to the magazine Forbes 90% of start-ups went bust in their two first years. Each of us knows at least one example of a company which achieved a success. Brand24 from Breslau has been moniting Internet for its customers since a few years and Snapchat is used by 100 mln people every day! What’s more Evan and Spiegel managed to pick up Miranda Kerr 😀 Start-ups are really common in fashion industry. The most interesting of them take part in a competition Global Fashion Battle. Its final part took place for the second time during the Art and Fashion Forum in Poznan.
34. PACKSHOT
It’s a still or moving image of a product and speaking more like a human – it’s a photo of a product 😉 You have to do with packshots, when you choose for example a dress on Zalando.pl or when you look through a CCC blouses catalogue. They are lacking in beautiful models and complicated compositions and products are cut around the outline (specialists call it “free-fromselecting”) and then put in a white background. Due to this they are photographed on special tailor’s dummies without necks or installed in Photoshop. They look like they were worn on a body, but there’s nothing… inside 😉 These are photos of “ghosts”. They are made in professional studios with appropriate light by specialized companies which are hired by clothes brand and designers. Packshots are used in advertisement, files, morevoer, they’re printed in newspapers and applied for presentation of clothes on the Internet, so called e-commerce. I use them them to show you the newest trends 🙂 You can find them in every fashion magazine – with the name of a brand and a prise under a picture they serve as an advertisement. They are total opposites of editorial photographies, but they’ve got a different function. Thanks to them you can find out what clothes cuts and details are available in given shops. So even if we’re sitting at home before a computer screen, we can look at a texture and details of a producat that we’re going to buy. New technologies are really helpful for this – e.g. a presentation of a product at a 306 degree or in a 3D technique (products spin around and we can look at it from different points). These solutions are suggested by e.g. MODE360°company.
35. OOTD
This abbreviation means Outfits of the Day, so simply an outfit of the day, a set which is worth showing off in social media 🙂 OOTD is one of the most frequently used hashtags on Instagram: it was used more than 68 mln times! Its popularity is still growing and according to Twelveskip.com it has a chance to become the most popular in 2016. It’s especially liked bu trendsetters and clothes lovers. In this way they make it quite clear that a set on a photo is worth-seeing and they can be sure that their thought-through outfits will be noticed 🙂 Hashtag has even got its own website! OOTDMagazine.com presents Instagram bloggers’ sets and tell you where you can buy similar clothes and details. OOTD is a popular abbreviation, but it’s not used by everyone in an attractive way. A website Complex.com included it to “13 Annoying Things Stylish People Do on Social Media” giving a boring set with a suit for men as an example 😉 You also remember to use OOTD hashtag cautiously! 🙂 Outfit of The Day has to be special because it refers to similar hashtags which highlight a special meaning of a given photo (e.g. PicOfThe Day, Best of the Day – catching the best moment of your day in a photograph)

Hej, super wpis, super blog.
Zobacz gdzie mnie doprowadziła silna wola 🙂 Powodzenia w blogowaniu! :***
