A pre-graduation ball (a traditional ball held approximately a hundred days before the final exams in Poland) isn’t just a random party, it’s special and it can be the last occasion for a party among mates from your school. The last symbolic “hundred days” before the final exams aren’t the best time for a controversy, so dress yourself appropriately (and stylish!) and keep in mind a few easy rules of the pre-graduation ball’s savoir vivre. Remember about a watchful eye of the math teacher and it had better, if you forget about a too short dress and a club make-up. And if you still don’t know which dress you should choose and whether you can drink alcohol during the ball, leave it to me. As a regular guest on elite parties, I will guide you smoothly through the confusing time of the preparation for the pre-graduation ball 😉 The animal will mention about traditions and explain why it’s a good idea to party with class. But not only with that from your high school 😀
1. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Although this question is asked by each of women every day, it becomes highly important before the pre-graduation ball. Most likely, it’s your first serious ball, therefore treat it seriously 😉 It’s a good idea to think of dress in advance and check if it fits and if, for example, a corset doesn’t “slide” after a few hours. But keep in mind that the pre-graduation ball is a school ball, so don’t choose too short mini-dresses and risky deep necklines. The rule of proportion is also in force here: if you show off your legs, cover your shoulders and if your dress has a knee-length, it’s acceptable to wear a back cutout dress. The animal loves saving, so it’s advisable for you to choose a dress which you can still wear after the pre-graduation ball. Maybe, a long ball dress is astonishing, but it’s more likely that you’ll wear a shorter dress on your friend’s wedding or on a date 😉
A dress for a pre-graduation ball should be beautiful and comfortable. There is nothing worse than raising your corset during the whole evening.
First of all, choose the color of a dress which will emphasize your beauty type. It has to stand out between dark suits and black outfits worn by your mates 🙂 Scandinavian blondes look great in cobalt and cold red and these girls with a warmer complexion may choose from cream, salmon and olive colored dresses, girls with brown hair may pick at will in bright colors, from lime to magenta. Redhair girls are liked by green and gold colors. Select a dress for your body type. HERE you can find plenty of inspirations for party outfits which will also work out for the pre-graduation ball. Check out also the cheat sheet which I prepared with the aim of weddings. You’ll see how to add a bit of volume to a boyish figure and how to hide your tummy if you’ve got the figure O 😉
2. MAKE-UP AND JEWELRY?
A beautiful dress is important, but it’s not everything yet. The final effect is usually based on little things. The choice of your underwear is essential! Visible shoulder-straps, edge of your bra or imprinted panties are NOT in. Pay attention to your shoes – if you’re skilled, you may let yourself wear 10cm heels but if you’ve just started your adventure with high heels, choose shorter heels (6-7cm heels are optimal). In both cases decide on strong colors (it’s preferable to contrast the color of your shoes with the color of your dress). If you chose new, leather shoes, walk in them around the house. In this way you’ll avoid the risk of shoes hurting you during the ball. Take ballerina flats with you, just in case 😉 The animal advises you to take gel insoles for shoes (for example produced by Scholl) and sticking plasters holding shoulder straps (you’ll find them e.g. HERE). Think of jewelry. Choose from three options: 1. a big, decorative necklace, 2. a mix of a few necklaces or 3. something original… on your head! 😀 Comb your hair in a bum which shows your neck and decorate it with a girly diadem or make a braid. Pinning your hair up with a decorative headband or with a visible from far away berrette in a retro style are also great solutions. Practice doing your make-up a day before your ball and… don’t exaggerate 😉 Choose classic red lips or timeless cat eyes.. A healthy skin is the most important so it’s worth taking care a few weeks before this vital day. Apply regularly a natural mango peeling and a moisturizing face mask with cinnamon. And take your absorbing tissues with you. They will help you to cope with your gleaming skin better than a thick layer of mattifying powder. You’ll feel soft and girly! 🙂
3. HOW SHOULD I BEHAVE?
At first glance this question seems silly, doesn’t it? Eventually, there’s just one answer: AS YOU KNOW – EXCELLENT! 😀 But when it comes to this ball, it isn’t so easy 😉 The Animal reminds you that your favorite class teacher and your biology teacher who always think that you’re a good girl will be present during this ball. It makes no sense before the final exams to convince them that from time to time you’re different 😉 Although officially during the pre-graduation ball you may drink only champagne, clever students stock up with stronger drinks on their own. Teachers often know about it but they usually wink at it and react only when things get out of control. The animal asks you – as a true lady you aren’t supposed to get drunk to unconsciousness. There’s no worse shame than calling your parents to pick you up because it’s difficult for you to stand straight. It would be the nightmare which you’ll remember for your whole life thanks to your class mates 😉
Be a lady! You didn’t buy a beautiful dress to come back home at 11 p.m. because you drunk too much.
It’s a good idea to stop complaining that the broth is too fat and to eat it to your fill. In this way you will prevent yourself from getting drunk with just a glass of champagne as a toast. The pre-graduation ball may last till morning but escape if dancing waltz on the table will come to your mind 🙂 It’s not about getting too serious, but you have to remember that besides teachers and parents who are watching you, there is also a camera. Short movies from pre-graduation balls become top videos on Facebook or YouTube. You don’t want to become famous due to your foolish behavior 😀
4. AND WHAT ABOUT MY PARTNER?
If you’ve got a boyfriend, the problem is solved 😉 But what should you do if you didn’t find your second half and you feel that it’s sad (and also embarrassing) to go on your pre-graduation ball without a partner? It’s a fact that you’ll find hundreds of ads like “I’m looking for a partner/ I offer my companion” on the Internet, but… never (ever!) use those ads. Do you want to go to your first ball with someone found on e-Bay, really? 😀 Ask your best friend or your older mate who will take care of you during this important evening. Invite someone you can trust and who won’t be a cause of shame. Instead of drinking in the toilet with his friends, he should ask how you feel and if you have fun 🙂 When you’ll get tired, he should call a taxi and walk you to the door. He’s responsible for you, without any excuses. No matter, if you’ll go with your boyfriend or an old friend, you have to take care about his appearance. Help him with choosing a suit, a shirt and jewelers. Matching the color of his tie with the color of your dress is an excellent idea. Such a “set” look great in photos 🙂 And the most important – your ball partner cannot wear dirty shoes or disheveled hair. It’s not appropriate to him to curse, smoke cigarettes in places which aren’t designated to it and argue with your school friends during the party. Remember that every self-respecting party animal deserves the best treatment, so make your partner aware of this fact in a subtle way. 😉
5. WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KEEP IN MIND? GARTERS, SUPERSTITIONS AND SON ON…
There are many magical superstitions and traditions connected with the pre-graduation ball. Some of them are quite fun, but other – deadly serious 🙂 Success in your final exams will be brought to you thanks to wearing a red underwear during the ball or… jumping on one leg around a famous monument 😉 the Animal heard that students from Cracow do it 😀 Just in case – and for luck – remember about fastening a red garter about the left leg. Corsage, a small bouquet of flowers, is the tradition which was “imported” from the United States. A corsage is bought by a partner and worn around the wrist of a girl. You could see such corsages in movies, for example, in “Holiday” starring Kate Winslet. Some of the pre-graduation ball superstitions aren’t necessarily approved by the animal Can you imagine her running after the headmaster to clap her three times in a knee? She chooses studying for three months to ensure herself success 😀 The presentation of class members at the very beginning of the ball is one of the habits. Be creative and suggest to your class mates something special. For example, you may decide on comparing yourself to movie stars, preparing a short video reportage or a funny dance. Approach learning how to dance the polonaise in a serious way. I know that rehearsals of the dance, which is danced at the beginning of the ball, are long and boring, but after years you’ll recall those moments with tenderness. Believe me who now has to satisfy herself with dancing in a popular club on weekends 😀
