A closet is full of real life-like relationships – not everything needs to be a perfect match 😉 Some clothes get along really well, others – not really. Just like people do 😉 I’m going to talk to you about such toxic relationships today. Ready? Read on!

1. BOOTS AND TIGHT PEDAL PUSHERS

The first pair of items that doesn’t really have a lot in common. No way they’ll compromise 😉 Why? It’s the matter of proportions. Pedal pushers are calf-length pants, and boots cover only half of your calf. The leg gets “cut” in the middle, which makes it look shorter, and totally nothing can help here, even high heels. Pedal pushers are worn in the summer, and it should stay this way (read about other kinds or summer pants here). Wear them with slides, ballerina flats, or sandals. As we all know, boots are usually designed for winter. They look nice with dresses, skirts, and narrow pants. What if you have your favorite pedal pushers and want to wear them on a cool day? Compromise, and wear them with really long boots!

2. AN EVENING GOWN AND A DOWN JACKET

The result might be interesting, if the outfit was worn by Bella Hadid and photographed by Mario Testino for Vogue. Yet if you’re attending a big event in your everyday life, it’s better to go for an elegant coat 😉 If you’re not a coat person, you can opt for a faux fur, or a tippet with an elegant brooch. They’ll look good with all kinds of shiny items, elegant jewelry, and red lipstick. Remember, though: faux-furs make you simply look bigger, so they’re best for petite Fs, slim Is or As, who should add some volume to the top parts of their bodies.

3. AN EVENING GOWN AND BALLERINA FLATS

Another look with an evening dress in the main role. I know that ballerina flats are comfy, and if you wear patent leather ones, they might be even superchic, yet they’re sometimes… simply not enough! If you’re really headed to an important event and need to take out an elegant dress, you should wear it with stilettos. If you want to make your body look taller and slimmer, wear nude ones, if you want to look subtle, go for nude tights, but if you want to stand out and look extravagant, their color can contrast with the rest of the outfit.

4. ELEGANT ANKLE BOOTS AND SPORTS SOCKS

During cold winter we’re all sometimes tempted to wear our favorite pair of white fluffy socks with… elegant shoes. The socks obviously have holes, but they’re warm and just happen to be in the top drawer. Now imagine that you wear them and during the day you spot those amazing boots in the window of one of your favorite stores. You decide to enter and try them on. Ooops… Have you just exposed the fluffy socks to the world? 😉 My dear! Be sure to follow this rule: dress as if your foe was waiting for you at every corner 😉 Don’t risk it all with Bridget Jones’ pants, a cotton bra that remembers your high school times, or old socks! You can go for colorful under-the-knees, fishnets, or thin socks in the color of your pants (yeah, it’s better to choose socks to match your pants rather than shoes).

5. A WHITE SHIRT AND A WHITE LACE BRA

If you want the bra to sexily lurk from underneath your shirt, you should go for a colorful one adorned with lace, for example. They look great in casual street looks. Sometimes the situation requires you to go for more subdued outfits and discrete elegance (during a job interview, for example). That’s when you should go for… plain nude bras. They’re practically invisible, even if you’re wearing a transparent shirt. You’ll read more about the sizes of bras and their kinds here. If you haven’t read the article yet, you definitely should, as it reveals all the secrets of the bra etiquette 😉

6. LEGGINGS AND SHORT SHIRTS

Let’s make it clear – leggings are not pants. They’re closer to tights and should be worn like tights. They’re perfect for everyday sports looks, especially colorful patterned ones (like those here). If you go for leggings, wear them with clothes that cover your butt – hoodies, tunics, long shirts, dresses. Jeggings are a bit more elegant than leggings (I wrote about them here). Jeggings are pants that look like jeans yet don’t have a zipper (perfect for figure type O). They can be worn with a shorter blouse, especially if they have pockets in the back. Be careful, though, not to look too provocative!
