Christmas get-togethers are approaching – not only the family ones, but also with our friends and colleagues. Check what to avoid during a Christmas dinner so that you’re not gossiped about throughout the whole carnival!
1. COMMENTING ON OTHER PEOPLE’S EATING HABITS
The fact that you’re on a diet or have just gone vegan doesn’t mean that you have a right to criticize other people’s eating habits. Especially on a special occasion, like a Christmas dinner. Make this evening a nice one for everyone and refrain from reminding your sister that she won’t achieve anything in her life if she continues eating that many calories. Well, Christmas is all about forgiveness, isn’t it? 😉
Make this year’s Christmas dinner an unforgettable experience for everyone. Don’t complain and leave uncomfortable subjects aside!
2. COMPLAINING ON THE PRESENTS
Just think how long it took your close ones to find a nice gift for you. You’re well-aware that it’s not an easy task 😉 Try to hide your dissatisfaction about another pair of socks, or a book that you already own. Show everyone that you’re happy and thank for the gift. You’ll think what to do with it after Christmas 😉
3. APOLOGIZING FOR THE LOW PRICE
When someone opens a gift from you, you immediately start apologizing that it’s so small? Don’t you ever do that again! Every present makes us happy, regardless how much it costs. Don’t make that mistake ever again! You’ll just draw attention to the price, which might make your close one feel embarrassed.
4. UNCOMFORTABLE CONVERSATIONS
Have you already read my article about the worst social blunders? Well, take my advice seriously, especially during Christmas – do not start on ambiguous topics. Try to avoid conversations about politics, religion and salary. Christmas is all about nice atmosphere!
5. LEAVING PRESENTS FOR LATER
Well, someone spends long hours sweating in the shopping mall looking for the perfect present for you, and they can’t wait to see your reaction… They watch you take the present from underneath the Christmas tree, and you… put it aside, as you’ve heard that one shouldn’t be hasty with opening their presents. No, no, no! Open it as soon as possible and tell the person you got it from how happy you are! 😉
6. JUST WAITING TO BE SERVED
Your hosts are surely very happy to be having you and be able to feed you with their delicious meals. Help them with minor chores, though. Set the table, bring the soup, wash the dishes. They’ll surely be grateful, and you’ll prove that Christmas is not only about sharing presents, but also about sharing good vibes 😉
7. TURNING THE COMPUTER ON
We all like „Home Alone”, but I totally suggest not watching it during the Christmas dinner. Leave your computer and phone aside. Turn off the TV. Make it this one time of the year when you devote 100% of your attention to your family.
